"We don't want poverty in the Sea of Cortez": Agustin Coppel

The objective is to move forward together with government, society, community, academia and business in the right actions to have a more prosperous region, said the Honorary President of the organization, at the opening of the Summit 2022 Mission Prosperity.

The purpose of the Sea of Cortez Forum is to achieve the prosperity in the region in the hope that everyone's families will move forward, that the biodiversity and regeneration of the region, that companies innovate and consolidate, and that the region grows steadily, he said. The honorary president of Sea of Cortez Forum said that this is a path that involves scientifically knowing the region and the sea that unites the states of Baja California Sur, Baja California, Sonora, Sinaloa y Nayarit.

"For this we have to develop projects to care for the environment, for our privileged biodiversity, we also require more and better companies that produce sustainable products and services, some of which do not yet exist, but are already emerging, is to advance in complex issues such as maintaining a healthy and fertile environment, that economic development is for all and that we achieve the challenge of eliminating poverty in the region," he said.

Coppel Luken stated that Sea of Cortez Forum is a meeting place to think, discuss, design and try to define a common project for the future in this incredible space as is the Gulf of California.

"We want to establish that the prosperity of some cannot be to the detriment of the avoidable suffering of others. We do not want poverty in the Sea of Cortez. The Sea of Cortez must be a region where there is always something new to undertake, something valuable that we can look forward to in the present and in the future," he stressed.

The honorary president of Sea of Cortez Forum He clarified that prosperity also depends on variables that they do not control, but that they can try to guide, so it is necessary to identify what they can control and direct and what they must, in all humility, mitigate, avoid or postpone.

"That is the sense of our purpose, to take responsibility for what is possible and contribute it to the common purpose, to put our talents and abilities together with those of you who are here to make prosperity a reality, collective prosperity for the Sea of Cortez," he emphasized.

Coppel Luken pointed out what is intended to be achieved through Sea of Cortez Forum:

  • We want to make it clear that the objective is to move forward together: government, society, community, academia and business, understanding and applying the best national and international practices.
  • We want to establish that the prosperity of some cannot come at the expense of the avoidable suffering of others. We do not want poverty in the Sea of Cortez.
  • We want to understand and define what our role will be in the sustainable feeding of the world and in the correct production of marine and agricultural products.
  • We want to build the tourism that will come to enjoy this wonderful place respecting the ecosystem, biodiversity and generating wealth in our communities.
  • We want to attract talent and promote the generation of more and better sustainable businesses;
  • We want to attract investment and capital commensurate with our challenges in order to eliminate poverty and, at the same time, keep our ecosystems healthy;
  • We want to open up more to the world, starting with our close neighbors in California and Arizona, developing academic, social and business synergies that will allow us to walk together in our common destiny;
  • We want to increase our awareness and commitment to the realities of caring for biodiversity and the serious global problem of climate change;
  • We want to establish flagship projects that put us on the road to and towards development;
  • We want to think together... and embark on a journey towards prosperity.

Coppel Luken emphasized that the region's biodiversity is privileged and demands a great deal of responsibility from everyone, because this is the true wealth and great potential of this wonderful region, which, by the way, has the best location in the world.
